Capturing Fellows’ Stories: The Oral History Project
Capturing Fellows’ Stories: The Oral History Project
Introduction
We are excited to share the Oral History Project, a growing collection of recorded conversations that capture the journeys, reflections, and experiences of our Fellows.
This living archive preserves the profound impact of the Churchill Fellowship both on Fellows and on the communities in which they work, highlighting our commitment to innovation and positive change across society.
To mark our 60th Anniversary, we are making these stories available online for the first time. Hosted by archivist Stephanie Nield, these conversations offer a unique opportunity to explore the personal journeys, insights, and contributions of Fellows and supporters over the years.
We hope you enjoy listening in.
Our thanks to everyone who has so generously shared their time and stories with us.
Episode 1: Yvonne Field OBE
Churchill Fellow and member of our Advisory Council, Yvonne Field shares her journey as a community leader, activist, and social entrepreneur. From her early advocacy for educational rights to founding The Ubele Initiative, she discusses her passion for leadership, social change, and community development. With insights on resilience, systemic change, and intergenerational leadership, this is a must-listen for anyone passionate about social justice and making a lasting impact.
Episode 2: Emily Niner
Inspired by volunteering at a pan-disability school during a university placement in Russia, charity worker Emily Niner was just 24 when she applied for a Fellowship researching diagnostic support for teenagers with autism in 2019. Her Fellowship was co-designed by the young Disabled People Emily worked with when she applied to the Fellowship. In her interview, Emily reflects on the challenges and successes of implementing her research, the impact of the pandemic, and how her work continues to shape services for neurodivergent young people. A compelling listen for anyone interested in youth participation and disability advocacy.
