Helping ‘left behind’ children to learn
By Alison Broady,
Through her work with Darlington Assistance for Refugees (DAR), Alison Holland (CF 2017) has developed an Orientation Programme inspired by her Fellowship in Sweden.
The two-day programme helps young refugees and asylum seekers transition into UK schools, addressing practicalities and language acquisition.
Alison collaborated with volunteers and local authorities to deliver the programme, aiming to bridge the gap in EAL provision.
As intended, the Orientation Programme is leading to the development of in-house programmes and colleagues from schools across Darlington have come together with a group of volunteers from DAR to share their expertise.
The resulting Guide to Inclusive Practice is available for download here.
