Award Ceremony

Award Ceremony

Introduction

The Award Ceremony is a biennial opportunity to celebrate the achievement of Fellows who have completed their Fellowship overseas learning phase and submitted their Fellowship learning and recommendations (previously titled ‘the report’).

The Award Ceremony has been running since the Fellowship programme began in the sixties. It is held every two years to recognise Fellows’ achievements and formally confer the status of Churchill Fellow on them as individuals.

Each Fellow is presented with a medallion engraved with their name and there are also some additional awards presented on the day.

The most recent Award Ceremony was held in 2024.

Criteria for eligibility

All Fellows who have completed their overseas learning and submitted their Fellowship learning and recommendations are eligible to attend. Fellows undertake their learning on different schedules which means that at the Award Ceremony there will be Fellows from a range of different years. A Fellow's Fellowship learning and recommendations submission deadline is 3 months after the completion of their overseas learning as agreed with the Fellowship team (see Guidance). Once a Fellow’s Fellowship learning and recommendations are submitted, they are reviewed, and then a final version is submitted.

At this point, a Fellow becomes eligible to attend the Award Ceremony and will be invited to the next one that is scheduled.

Once the date of the Award Ceremony has been set, any Fellow who has completed their overseas learning but not yet submitted their Fellowship learning and recommendations will also be notified. They will be asked to submit by a certain date in order to be eligible to attend. This deadline is put in place for each Award Ceremony to allow for planning and the engraving of medallions. If the Fellow meets the deadline, they will be invited to attend. If Fellowship learning and recommendations are submitted before an Award Ceremony but after the deadline, the Fellow will not be eligible to attend the upcoming ceremony but will be invited to the next Award Ceremony two years later.

Fellows may only attend one Award Ceremony. Fellows may bring one guest for whom there will be a small charge to cover refreshments.

Alternative ways to receive your medallion

Eligible Fellows who wish to receive their medallions are given three options:

  1. Attend the Award Ceremony and be presented with their medallion on the day
  2. Have it sent by signed for/tracked post.
  3. Collect it from the Churchill Fellowship office.

How can I join the next Award Ceremony?

If you meet the eligibility criteria above, then there’s nothing you need to do. We will be in touch with you several months ahead of the next Award Ceremony with further details and the opportunity to sign up to attend. If you haven’t yet submitted your learnings but would like to attend the next Award Ceremony, we would encourage you to look at our Guidance for some advice on where to start. If you are struggling to produce your Fellowship learning and recommendations or would like to speak to somebody for more guidance, please be in touch with our Engagement team via engagement@churchillfellowship.org. They would be very happy to speak with you and help with any queries you may have.

Please note: This is how the Award Ceremony typically functions, but this may be updated for future events. If there are any changes, they will be added to this page and all eligible Fellows will be informed directly.
