Biography
I am a Sheffield-bred Jamaican British writer, spoken word artist, rapper and producer, and Founder of Slambarz CIC. For seven years I've worked on a wide range of creative community projects with a focus on building creative platforms for vulnerable young people aged 14-25 to offer validating and meaningful inspiration and outlets (including publications, events and live showcases, music production, video content and podcasts) to boost self-esteem and self-belief, influencing positive life paths.
My work comprises roles including creative writing and music facilitation, mentoring, coaching for performance, broadcasting, events devising, project management and compering at creative festivals.
The purpose of my Fellowship is to research and explore how other organisations creatively engage with communities to overcome cultural barriers, isolation, trauma, violence and crime. My personal experiences have shaped my vision to build safe, inclusive environments for young people to thrive in. Scarcity of creative provisions often leads to misguided youth, which sadly decays communities. My Fellowship will help us to innovate new ways of tackling this universal issue.
