Biography
As a director of data and AI strategy, I have a passion for helping organisations, from non-profits to large enterprises, build the cultural and technical foundations required for the safe and effective use of emerging technologies. My Fellowship will explore how charities can apply AI in ways that advance their mission and unlock new opportunities, while staying true to their values and purpose.
In the 1980s, following the loss of two children in a single year, my grandparents, at the suggestion of Diana, Princess of Wales, founded Children with Cancer UK. The charity has since raised over £300 million. Being around the charity from an early age gave me a lasting appreciation for the vital role such organisations play in society, and the difficult trade-offs they must navigate.
My research will take me to the USA to meet with leaders in the non-profit, academic and policy communities, to examine how AI is being used to address critical challenges, culminating in a report on what the UK charity sector can learn from the US experience, with insights on embedding technology in ways that are mission-aligned, ethically sound and organisationally sustainable.
