Biography

I currently work for HMPPS as a Prison Employment Lead. My role is to support prisoners into employment on release and ultimately to reduce their likelihood of reoffending.

The criminal justice system in the UK is at breaking point, with prison populations at an all-time high, and this has a ripple effect impacting services well beyond the justice sector. My Fellowship project aims to learn how we can reduce reoffending in UK prisons through replicating good practices found in countries like Norway and Switzerland.

I have committed over 10 years of my life to the study and practice of criminology and know first-hand the potential within the prison system, both in terms of the individuals within it and the institutions themselves. My combination of academic study and professional experience has led me to seek to improve conditions and practices here in the UK, through shared learning with countries who are having success in this area. I intend to identify real-life, actionable practices that can be applied to a system which faces many challenges, with the ultimate hope to try to reduce the number of people coming back into custody.
