I am a doctor, training in general practice with an aim to develop a special interest in sexual health. I have taken a year out of the programme to work as a Health Fellow tackling health misinformation with Full Fact, the UK's independent fact-checking organisation.

My Fellowship took me to San Francisco and South Africa, and looked at the roll-out of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), which is an effective medication that can prevent the transmission of HIV. Having become aware of PrEP whilst writing my MSc dissertation, I was interested in lessons learnt from these larger PrEP roll-outs, and particularly how countries that were using PrEP more widely were increasing its use in communities that were being left behind in the UK roll-outs: people of colour and women.

My Fellowship has shaped the practitioner that I am today, and since returning I have written in media outlets to increase awareness of PrEP amongst key demographic groups, co-authored an online learning module for non-sexual health specialists to learn about PrEP (GPs and A&E doctors in particular can make a big difference in this arena) and been appointed as a Health Fellow.
