Helping ‘left behind’ children to learn
By Alison Broady,
Terry Stevens (CF 1977) has published Bucked in the Yarn – The Unique Heritage of Coker Canvas.
The book explores how three Somerset villages – East, North, and West Coker – produced world-renowned sailcloth for over 300 years, used by navies, admirals, pirates, and explorers. Coker Canvas was also the sailcloth of choice for British yachts competing for the America’s Cup between 1880 and 1934.
Proceeds from the book support The Coker Rope & Sail Trust, dedicated to preserving the villages’ heritage.
