This learning period can take place entirely via travel, entirely online where you would connect with overseas contacts online from the UK; or a hybrid mix of travel and online learning from the UK.

The online and hybrid options enable you to:

• carry out your Fellowship alongside work and caring commitments.
• reduce your carbon footprint.
• learn from a larger number of countries beyond the UK than you could physically travel to in 4-8 weeks.

One of the greatest benefits of a Churchill Fellowship is the opportunity to immerse yourself in your chosen subject area. Therefore if you choose our hybrid or online options, we strongly recommend that your online learning is:

• carried out in an environment that allows you to immerse yourself in your idea. This could include renting accommodation away from home, renting a shared work space or working in a dedicated workspace in your own home.
• carried out in blocks of time when you will not be distracted by day-to-day life.

Churchill Fellowships are intended to support Fellows to carry out active engagement with people and organisations overseas and therefore we do not fund:

• Time or travel to learn from people or projects in the UK.
• Time in the UK to plan overseas travel or research (in addition to the three days planning time provided to all Fellows.)
• Time in the UK to carry out overseas research which does not involve active engagement with people or projects overseas. For example, we cannot fund time to carry out literature reviews.
